The engine in your Nissan needs Direct Ignition Coils to start. Spark plugs require thousands of volts to make the appropriate spark, which is far more than the 12 volts your vehicle's battery is able to produce. Your ignition coils take the voltage from the battery, boost it, and forward it to the spark plugs. The spark plugs can then start your vehicle.
